Scholarship Program

To strengthen the pipeline of prosecutors across the nation, the NBPF, a 501(c)(3) organization, has established a Scholarship Program to provide financial assistance to law students who have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in criminal prosecution.

Each year, the NBPF awards two $2,500 general scholarships. Additionally, the NBPF recently launched a $1,500 Arthur L. Burnett, Sr. Bar Scholarship and a $1,000 Norman S. Early, Jr. Scholarship (see details below).

Awardees also have the opportunity to attend and fully participate in the annual National Black Prosecutors Association Conference & Job Fair. Some of our scholars and fellows have participated in on site interviews and received internship and post-graduation offers from employers during the job fair.

Norman S. Early, Jr. Scholarship

The NBPF is excited to announce a new scholarship to provide financial assistance for NBPA law student members.

The Norman S. Early, Jr. Scholarship honors the legacy of the Founder of the National Black Prosecutors Association, the late Norman S. Early, Jr. of Colorado.

Early, who was affectionately known as “Norm,” served as the first Black district attorney in Denver, Colorado, making him the first Black district attorney in the State of Colorado. Norm spent a decade as Denver’s chief prosecutor, helped reshape how Colorado treats victims of crime, and strove to increase diversity in the criminal justice system. Norm was a mentor to many and his legacy will impact many future generations.

Arthur L. Burnett, Sr. Bar Scholarship

The NBPF is excited to announce a new scholarship to provide financial assistance for NBPA law student members who are taking the bar exam in July 2025.

The Honorable Arthur L. Burnett Bar Scholarship is in honor of the late Judge Burnett of the District of Columbia Superior Court. Judge Burnett was an avid supporter of the National Black Prosecutors Association. He sponsored the NBPA’s first group of lawyers for admission to the Supreme Court of the United States Bar and was a regular CLE speaker for the NBPA. Although we are saddened by his recent passing, we know his legacy and impact on the legal community will live on for generations to come.
